His Girlfriend Brought Home a Cat He Didn’t Want. Now, They’re Best Friends

Sometimes, the pet you never planned to have ends up becoming the one you can't imagine living without.

That’s exactly what happened to one man who had spent months telling his girlfriend he did not want a cat.

His girlfriend kept insisting they should get one, but he wasn't convinced. Eventually, the couple reached a compromise: they would visit a shelter together and see if the right cat came along.

Nine months later, he has a very different opinion.

“I’m fairly confident I have the best cat ever,” he wrote in a Reddit post.

The cat's name is Monoco, and these days, the two are apparently inseparable.

Monoco is constantly sitting or sleeping on him, turning the man who once didn't want a cat into a devoted cat dad.

And Monoco's story makes their bond even more special.

The approximately 6-year-old cat was found in an abandoned house and was later brought to a shelter. While there, he needed surgery because his eyelashes were growing inward and causing problems with his eyes.

Fortunately, Monoco received the care he needed and eventually found his way into a home where he was very quickly loved.

But he didn't just become part of the family.

He also played a role in helping create a very special moment.

Monoco helped his owner propose to his girlfriend.

She said yes.

The couple is now engaged, and the cat who was once so unwanted has become a very important part of their love story.

As for Monoco's health, his owner says he is doing well and receives regular checkups with the veterinarian.

It’s a pretty wonderful reminder that sometimes, we don't know what we're missing until it finds us.

This man thought he didn't want a cat.

Instead, he found a best friend.

And Monoco found something pretty wonderful too: a forever home with two people who clearly love him.
