June 26, 2026

When every second counted, 7-year-old Patrick didn't panic—he acted.

The Texas boy is being praised for his incredible bravery after rescuing his 1-year-old brother, Liam, from a backyard swimming pool, a series of actions that authorities say helped save the toddler's life.

The frightening incident happened on June 21 in Burleson, Texas, when Liam was discovered unresponsive in the family's swimming pool. Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office responded alongside emergency crews, who quickly began lifesaving treatment before transporting the little boy to Cook Children's Medical Center.

Thankfully, Liam is expected to make a full recovery.

As deputies pieced together what happened, they learned that Patrick had been the first to find his younger brother in the water.

Despite being just seven years old, Patrick pulled Liam from the pool, rushed to alert his mother, and then sprinted to a neighbor's house to get even more help.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said Patrick's calm thinking and quick response were remarkable.

"In moments of crisis, even adults can freeze under pressure," the sheriff's office wrote. "Patrick did the opposite."

Officials credited his courage and determination with playing a critical role in the chain of events that ultimately saved Liam's life.

To recognize his extraordinary actions, deputies have nominated Patrick to receive a Sheriff's Commendation Award. The nomination will be reviewed by the Sheriff's Office Awards Committee, and if approved, he will receive the commendation along with a special pin honoring his heroism.

"Our entire Sheriff's Office family is incredibly proud of Patrick," the agency said. "His selflessness, courage, and love for his little brother serve as a powerful reminder that heroes come in all ages and sizes."

Patrick may only be seven years old, but when his family needed a hero most, he showed that courage isn't measured by age—it's measured by the willingness to act.
