A simple act of compassion from Detroit is warming hearts around the world.
While out one freezing morning, a father named Joshua Threatt noticed something that didn’t sit right with him — a 6-year-old girl walking alone to school without a hat or gloves. With temperatures bitterly cold, he knew he couldn’t just keep walking.

Threatt, 36, decided to walk alongside the child, escorting her roughly 10 blocks to Thirkell Elementary School. As he made sure she arrived safely, he recorded the moment on Facebook Live, where the video quickly spread and resonated with tens of thousands of viewers.
In the video, Threatt can be heard reacting with concern as he realizes how young the child is and how cold she must have been. He later explained that the situation hit especially close to home because his own youngest child is the same age.
“If I was cold, I definitely know she was cold,” Threatt said in the video.
When they arrived at the school, Threatt explained the situation to staff at the front door, becoming emotional as he described how far the child had walked alone. He expressed relief that he was able to make sure she was safe.
After the video went viral, Threatt shared that he spoke directly with the girl’s father, saying the two had a respectful, honest conversation.
Other parents were quick to praise his actions.
Threatt hopes the moment serves as a reminder to parents everywhere.
“Make sure the kid’s safety is first and foremost above anything,” he said.
