At just 8 years old, Preston has already faced more challenges than most people see in a lifetime. Diagnosed with hydrocephalus before birth, Preston has undergone an astonishing 34 surgeries at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Hydrocephalus is a rare condition where there is an excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain's ventricles. This buildup of fluid causes the ventricles to enlarge and can put pressure on the brain tissue.

But this week, the brave young Braves fan got a moment of pure joy—his favorite player, Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider, walked into his hospital room to surprise him.

“Even fresh out of surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Preston couldn’t stop smiling when Strider walked into his room,” local journalist Kaitlyn Ross shared.

Preston’s family said the visit meant the world to him and is giving him strength as he faces the long recovery ahead.

Ross is now encouraging the community to shower Preston with love and encouragement by sending him cards and messages.
