A Simple Box, A Big Impact: This City’s Blessing Box Quietly Helps Those In Need

July 21, 2025

Since 2017, a handmade wooden cabinet in the lobby of the Caldwell Police Department has quietly made a powerful impact.

Known as the Blessing Box, it’s a place where anyone in need can find essentials like nonperishable food, hygiene products, and baby items—available around the clock.

The idea began with one officer and his family, and over the years, the community has kept it going strong. From individuals to entire schools, people regularly stop by to drop off supplies.

“Even elementary students do fundraising, service projects, and they come and drop off stuff all the time,” said Liz Godina, Victim Witness Coordinator at the department.

“It's always great to see the community, especially the young local youth doing that.”

With the police department lobby open 24/7, the Blessing Box is always accessible, offering support and dignity to those who need it most.

“It'll be here forever,” Liz added. “Really goes to show we can all make a difference.”

The Blessing Box is more than a cabinet—it’s a symbol of a community that cares.
