Florida Officer Rescues Dog Tied To Fence In Chest-High Water As Hurricane Closes In
October 10, 2024
As Hurricane Milton approached, a Florida Highway Patrol officer made a life-saving discovery while driving down I-75 near Bruce B Downs Blvd.

The officer spotted a dog tied to a fence, left helpless in the rising waters as Hurricane Milton approached. The water had already reached the dog's chest, and the animal, clearly frightened, growled and barked as the trooper cautiously approached.
"It's okay, it's okay," the officer reassured, his voice calm despite the tense situation. The dog’s defensive behavior continued, its growls and barks echoing through the storm. "I don't blame you," the officer said softly, understanding the dog's fear.
With patience and persistence, the trooper slowly gained the dog's trust. Once the dog calmed down, the officer was able to free him from the fence and bring him to safety.
After the rescue, the dog was taken to a veterinarian, where it received a clean bill of health, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety.
