Francis, originally from Ghana, moved to the U.S. ten years ago and has become a cherished part of the school community. His infectious kindness and unwavering friendliness have left a lasting impact on the students.
"Ever since we met Francis, he has been super kind and friendly, and sometimes even says prayers for us," one student shared. When asked about his birthday wish, Francis mentioned his lifelong dream of owning a Jeep Wrangler, though he thought it was far beyond his means.
Determined to make his dream come true, a group of students started a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds. In just a short amount of time, they gathered over $20,000. On Monday, they surprised Francis with a 105 candy red Jeep Wrangler.
Tears of joy streamed down Francis' face as he saw the gift. "Oh my God, oh my God," he repeated, overwhelmed with emotion. Falling to the ground in disbelief, he added, "I don't believe this is happening in my life. … I give thanks to almighty God for making today for me."
The students were thrilled to give back to someone who had shown them so much kindness.
"He's more than a custodian, he's a friend to us. His kindness is contagious, and we just said, 'Let's get him a Jeep Wrangler'," explained freshman Bennett Hibshman.
