Texas Family's Quick Thinking With A Warm Tortilla Saves Baby Bird
July 22, 2024
Today's good news story comes from Amarillo, Texas.
A Texas family saved a baby bird they found on the ground by wrapping it in a warm tortilla until help arrived.

Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
The story began when the family spotted the small bird while barbecuing and swimming in their backyard. Noticing the bird was alone and cold, they sprang into action.
The mother, thinking quickly, asked for a tortilla to be warmed on the grill to provide heat for the tiny creature. They gently wrapped the bird in the warm tortilla, ensuring it stayed cozy while they awaited further assistance from the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
A rehabber arrived at the scene and was greeted by the family holding the baby Mississippi Kite, still wrapped snugly in the tortilla. The innovative method had worked, keeping the hatchling warm and safe until help could arrive.
The baby bird is now at the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, where it will be cared for over the next several weeks. The center will be providing insects and frozen mice for the young bird as it grows and regains strength.
