Incredible Rescue: Bystanders Jump Into Florida Inlet To Save Teen
June 18, 2024
Today's good news story comes from Boca Raton, Florida.
A dramatic water rescue was captured on camera as three good Samaritans leaped into action to save a struggling teen at the Boca Raton Inlet.
Seth Stern found himself with no other choice but to jump into the water when he saw the teen in distress on Sunday. "His arms were in the air, flailing and yelling for help," Stern recounted.
Stern was at the inlet filming boats for work when he heard the cries for help. "I asked him to swim sideways to us on the rocks so we could grab him, but his response was 'I can’t, I don’t have the energy,'" Stern said.
With no time to waste, Stern waved down lifeguards but decided to take immediate action. The video footage shows him clambering over the rocks before diving into the water to assist the teen, who was struggling against a strong rip current near the rocks. "There is a really strong rip current underneath the water that he was stuck in by being close to the rocks," Stern explained.
Two other men quickly followed Stern into the water, and together, they managed to drag the teen back to safety. Lifeguards at the Boca Raton Inlet also swam out to help.
Despite having no formal lifeguard training, Stern’s parental instincts kicked in. “I did what any parent would do and jumped in,” said Stern. “I really don’t know how it would have played out if we were not here.”
