Amanda Barnett is a hairstylist at Mnandi Salon in Leominster. On Aug. 23, she held a "Free Kids Cuts" event at the salon for families going through a difficult time.
"I have always wanted to host an event to help single mothers out there or families in general struggling financially sending their children off to school," she told the Sentinel And Enterprise. "With the prices of everything being so expensive, if I could take a little stress and worry away by donating some of my time and money to get back-to-school supplies for the kids, and a fresh haircut, then that is what I wanted to do."
Barnett said she had the pleasure of blessing 30 kids with free haircuts, backpacks and school supplies. She also held a raffle for an arts and crafts gift basket.

"That's a wrap for my kids free cut event! It was such a blessing and amazing feeling being able to do this for you guys!" she wrote in a Facebook post. "This little girl (pictured above) brought tears to my eyes she was sooooo appreciative for being my winner of the arts and craft basket!!! I truly feel so blessed soooooo on that note I CAN NOT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR ! 2nd annual free kid cut event."
Barnett believes that these acts of kindness are so important especially in the world we live in today.
"We all need to come together and be there for one another and look out for each other," she said. "We could move mountains as a community if we all think like this."
