President Stevo Pendarovski visited the family of 11-year-old Embla Ademi, as well as the primary school "Edinstvo", where Embla attends classes.
"We are all equal in this society. I came to give my support and to raise awareness that inclusion is a basic principle," President Pendarovski said in a statement.
Pendarovski stressed inclusion in schools and made a point to emphasize the social responsibility of children with disabilities to feel welcome and equal.
"They should not only enjoy the rights they deserve, but also feel equal and welcome in the school desks and schoolyard. It is our obligation, as a state, but also as individuals, and the key element in this common mission is empathy," he said.
Pendarovski, 58, is the fifth president of North Macedonia. He was elected in 2019.
