Community Comes Together To Support Young Woman At Livestock Auction

A community in Michigan came together to support a young woman and her cousin who was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer.

At the Montcalm County 4-H Fair livestock auction in Greenville, the auctioneers were handed a letter with the request to sell a woman's hog.
"Before the auction started we were handed a letter and asked if we would sell this young lady's hog that was overweight and she was going to take the proceeds and give it to her cousin which was a young mother of four and just got diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer," said Jason Clark, owner of Pioneer Auction Service.
Jason said a prayer and hoped it would turn out good for the young lady.
When the time came to sell the "benefit hog", she stepped into the ring with a picture of her hog.
"Most of the Hogs were selling from that $2.50 to $4 a pound area but my first number was 5 bucks a pound and when about five hands went in the air I knew we were in business," Clark said.
When the bidding quit it sold for $24 a pound to Weisen Powder Coat Co.
The whole building exploded with cheering.
But that's not even the best part.
Weisen Powder Coat Co. then donated the hog back to sell it again.
The second time around it sold for $20 a pound to Meijer.
"It was a true honor to be able to sell this hog for the family," Clark said. "And I applaud this young lady for doing such a thing and my prayers go out to her and her family."
