Canadian motorcyclist's random act of kindness goes viral on YouTube
August 13, 2013
A Victoria man is getting thousands of views on YouTube for his “Random Acts of Coolness” videos.
Motocross blogger Kim Faganello wanted a way to encourage people to do good deeds.
In May, he shot a video of himself helping out a woman in a motorized wheelchair who had got stuck on a curb.
He didn’t post the video until last Friday, but it’s already garnered 65,000 views and received comments from all around the world.
Faganello created the contest called “Random Acts of Coolness” on his YouTube channel to encourage people — especially young men — to do good deeds.
“Kindness had been done, I wanted to do something that younger guys would be more into saying or doing,” he says.
“They will say ‘cool,’ but you’re not going to hear a 24-year-old guy say that was really kind.”
Faganello has already given out prizes for the first round of the contest but says he is planning on doing a second contest soon.
He uses a GoPro camera with a wired microphone to record the videos.
He says it’s just something he does anyway, and takes the positive attention in stride.
“While I am riding, if I see someone who needs help, I’ll pull up beside them and make sure they are OK.”
Video of a Vancouver motorcycle rider helping a blind man cross the street went viral earlier this year, attracting 75,000 views.
