Substitute Teacher Gives Shoes Off His Feet So Student Can Walk Across Graduation Stage
June 14, 2019
A substitute teacher is being praised for his act of kindness toward a 5th grade student on graduation day.
The student's shoes broke shortly before he walked across the stage to graduate from George Mason Elementary in Richmond, Virginia.
The school's guidance counselor brought the student and his mother to the art teacher hoping to find some supplies to patch the boy's shoes back up.
But the supplies didn't work.
That's when Vohn Lewis, known to most as Mr. Lewis, stepped in and saved the day.

"Me being me, sometimes my heart leads me to certain situations," Lewis told WTVR. "I said you can wear my shoes man, I wear a size 10."
Art teacher Bradley Kopelove told the news outlet she "almost cried" after seeing Lewis offer the student his own shoes.
"I was so thankful. That's just how Mr. Lewis is and I knew that I could count on him," she said.

But Lewis did ask the boy for one thing in return.
"I told him that he had to make a promise to me because it was nothing for me to do something like that for him." Lewis said. "But he has to keep in mind that one day he's going to be in the position of Mr. Lewis and he has to do the same thing."
