She Asked For Dog Photos, But She's Getting So Much More

A little girl who asked for dog photos has received more than 200,000 photos and letters – and so much more!

Emma Mertens of Hartland, Wisconsin, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in January.
She asked for nothing more than adorable dog photos since she could never have her own pup. Unfortunately, her family is very allergic to canines.
Dog owners worldwide responded to the request, sending Emma more than 200,000 photos, letters, stuffed animals and well wishes.
"She was pretty amazed, pretty surprised," Emma’s father, Geoff, told The Tribune. "We literally feel like the whole world is rallying around her."
But Emma's getting more than just mail.
The Animal Clinic in Sussex gave Emma a day she will never forget by making her a guest veterinarian for the day.
Nearly 40 police departments from across Wisconsin stopped by the Mertens family house last weekend — with over 35 K-9 dogs in tow.

While Emma may be facing a tough road, her family is staying optimistic.
"All of this love for Emma is giving us ideas on how to pay it forward," Geoff wrote on Facebook. "God has picked us for a reason. I feel it is because we can handle it and WE CAN BEAT THIS!"
