Paralyzed high school student walks for the first time at graduation

June 3, 2013

It's been a long, hard road for Garrett Bazany, who walked for the first time at his high school graduation ceremony in front of all his friends and family.

Three years ago, Bazany had an accident on a trampoline which instantly paralyzed him from the chest down. He managed to drag himself to the edge of the trampoline to grab his cell phone and call for help. He knew right then and there that something was seriously wrong.

The past three years, Bazany has been attending rehab and undergoing strength training and conditioning to make all of this possible.

"It kinda sums up all the hard work I've done for the last three years. I've been in therapy for three years, intensively, trying every day to walk again," said Bazany.

Bazany will attend college next year and plans to develop innovative tools that will help people with spinal injuries learn to walk again.
