Ellen Surprises Minnesota Single Mom Who Donated A Kidney To Save Her Son

November 19, 2017

Ellen DeGeneres surprised a Minnesota mother of three who donated her kidney to save her son.

Stacey Elsenpeter's son, Zach, was born with kidney failure and has had more than 70 surgeries. But Elsenpeter couldn't donate her own kidney to Zach because they were not a match, so she joined a kidney-parent exchange.

Elsenpeter ended up donating her kidney to a stranger, and three years later, a stranger returned the favor.

After hearing about the family's struggles, Ellen sent her assistant to surprise the family at their home and invite them to one of Ellen's "12 Days of Giveaways" episodes, in which all audience members take home big prizes.
