Jeanette Carty's husband, Joe, spent thirty years in the force serving from 1942 to 1972.

The Norfolk Fire-Rescue Department in Virginia wanted to make Jeanette's 100th birthday special.
When she heard a knock on her door, she walked outside to see firefighters lined up outside of her house cheering and holding flowers.

"It's that way with fire departments," Norfolk Battalion Chief Julian Williamson said, "Once you're in and you serve, you're part of a close-knit family."
Jeanette was married to Joe for 74 years and till he passed away in 2008 at the age of 94.
