Thousands of donations allow hero dog to receive $20,000 surgery

August 17, 2012

Earlier this year, a dog named Kabang saved the lives of two children by jumping in the way of an oncoming motorcycle in the Philippines.

11-year-old Dina Bunggal and her 3-year-old cousin Princess Diansing were crossing the street when their lives suddenly became in danger as a motorist swerved out of control heading right for the children.

Kabang courageously dove in front of the children taking the impact of the motorcycle which saved the lives of Dina and Princess. Unfortunately, the blow caused severe injuries to Kabang and she lost her entire upper snout. The girls were able to walk away with only minor cuts and bruises.

Kabang needed surgery to live, but at a cost of $20,000 for transportation to the US, surgery, and the recovery process, it seemed hopeless. After saving two lives, it looked like no one was going to save Kabang's.

That was until this story received national attention and people all over the world began to make a difference. Thousands of donations started pouring in for Kabang's surgery in th US. Animal lovers and organizations raised enough money to save her life.

Kabang's owner's could not believe the generosity. Working in the Philippines, they only bring home about $3.50 a day.

Kabang will undergo surgery at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at the University of California Davis. Thanks to the kind loving hearts of people all over the world, Kabang gets another chance at life.
