A Major U.S. City Has Made It Mandatory For Pet Stores To Only Sell Rescue Animals
August 8, 2015
A judge in Phoenix, Arizona recently upheld a 2013 ordinance stating all dogs and cats sold from local pet stores must be rescue animals.

Phoenix joins more than 59 cities and counties across the country that have passed similar legislation. Lawmakers and animal lovers believe that the law will help to put an end to puppy mills.
Phoenix City Councilwoman Thelda Williams, who helped lead the effort to pass the ordinance, said many local residents and rescue organizations have sent her e-mails of gratitude about the ruling.
"I'm just delighted that the city of Phoenix won," Williams said. "This means more protection for puppy lovers and the puppies themselves. We have so many dogs in Arizona that need homes, we don't need to import them."
