Child fighting cancer donates savings to animals
June 8, 2012
Ian Himmelstein, an 8 year old boy from New York, has been battling leukemia but decided to donate his "vacation savings" to a local animal shelter.
Ian has been saving money to go on a much needed vacation after he wins his battle with cancer. Instead of using the money himself, he decided the animals needed it more and donated it all to the local SPCA.
The news of his heart warming donation spread reaching the runners of a large Facebook community page, the German Sheperd Dog Community, who decided to try and repay the deed.
One member contacted the public relations department at the Atlantis Resort in Bahamas to let them know about this selfless child's generosity and his dream to visit Atlantis. Atlantis Resort responded by providing Ian's family with a voucher for a 4 day/3 night stay at Atlantis, including a dolphin encounter for his entire family of four!
An online fundraiser has also been created to help raise money for his amazing trip. If you want to make a small donation you can click here. Their goal is only $2,000.
It's a true act of selflessness that a child battling a disease as terrifying as cancer wanted to spend his dream vacation savings on animals in need. I'm so happy that the news spread so fast and inspired knowing that strangers around the globe are helping to make his dream come true.
Once again, karma prevails. This feel good story reminds us to be good to one another and good things will come back to us!
