Neighborhood Kid Offering Snow Shoveling Services, Unprepared For Weather
By a friend • January 10, 2026
Had a young man, early teens knock on my door and offer to shovel for 10 bucks. I was excited to take him up on it because it's the first time I had any kid show up.
I told him just to shovel the walkway (10 mins) and not the full sidewalk or driveway because I wanted him to be able to hit up more houses.
It's such a great experience for kids to be brave, he was all by himself, I believe I was the first house that accepted.
I paid him and gave him a pair of gloves, he wasn't wearing any.
I think it used to be more common for kids to offer to do odd jobs for spending money, but I've lived in more city-like areas where it has become uncommon. I'm hoping our neighborhood can feel safe and friendly for kids so that they can show independence like this!
