Some Things Are Not All About Money

By a friend • September 5, 2024

I have been making lap size quilts for the past few months. I also made couple table runners and other bits and pieces. I use the hand sew, hand tie method.

One quilt I decided to put on Facebook and said I would prefer it to go to someone in need. A woman told me she just lost one of her two dogs and wanted it to cuddle up on the sofa with the remaining dog.

Today she came to pick it up, and I realised it wasn't about the quilt. She lost one of her two dogs a few days ago and is grieving her loss. She cried, I hugged her. She told me what happened. It was far less about the quilt than it was about her needing to be heard, to express her grief at losing a beloved fur baby, at needing comfort.

She left with the quilt and also a jar of home made marmalade and I felt rather humbled and happier about the quilt recipient, for indeed she was in need.

Maybe not so much financially but some things are not all about money.
