Thank You Neighbor
By A Friend • December 6, 2018
My story starts on April 2, 2013.
In the early morning, my stepdad pasted away and my mom was struggling to cope with the loss. As summer was coming, my mom had become depressed and struggled to get chores done around the house. One of the tedious chores we had was mowing the lawn. We live in the country and since we have a big yard, it can take up to 4 hours to mow.
By the end of May, the grass was up to our knees. Since I was only 11 years old, I wasn’t able to mow the lawn by myself.
A few days later, my neighbor, who lives down the road from us, asked if he could mow our lawn for us.
My mom said yes because otherwise it would never get done.
After he finished, my mom tried to pay him but he didn’t accept the money.
A few days pass and he comes and mows our lawn again. He continued to do this over the summer. He would mow our lawn for hours and refuse to let us pay him.
On the last day he mowed, my mom invited him in for dinner. While we were eating, it had come up that he lost his wife a few years ago and knew how hard it was to get things done.
Now that I am older, I am extremely grateful of what he did and hope to be able to do the same type of thing when I get older.
Sadly, he passed away a few months ago, but I figured that I should share this story about how kind he truly was.
