I always thought Micheal Jackson came up with those iconic dance moves on his own, but they actually came from Bob Fosse, an American actor and choreographer.

After some research, MJ has mentioned him as an influence and Fosse expressed appreciation for MJ as well. When MJ was disappointed that he didn't stay on his toes as long as he wished during Motown 25, he expressed that to Fosse, who replied, "Michael, it's never the steps that are important. It's the style".
