The picture shows the two furry friends sitting side by side beneath an umbrella on the ground, seemingly content to let the rain fall around them while they stay nice and dry.

Honestly, they look like they've found the perfect little shelter.

But while people are busy admiring the adorable scene, some have been asking a much more important question.

Which came first, the umbrella or the cats?

Did someone spot the cats getting soaked and thoughtfully put an umbrella over them? Or did the two clever kitties discover their own little rain shelter?

According to China Xinhua News, the photo was taken at Nanjing Normal University of Special Education in China, where a student "reportedly" placed an umbrella over the two stray cats to protect them from the rain.

The simple gesture has since warmed hearts across Chinese social media.

Now, if only they could figure out how to make someone bring them a snack.
