Mom Left Speechless After Reading Son’s Mother’s Day School Assignment
May 8, 2026
A Mississippi mom got the Mother’s Day surprise of a lifetime after her first grader accidentally turned a sweet classroom assignment into comedy gold.
Like schools everywhere, students were asked to fill out a worksheet describing their moms with adorable little answers about favorite foods, hobbies, and what they do during the day. Most parents expect heartwarming responses. Some brace for unintentional honesty.
But 7-year-old Mayson delivered something his mother, Brooke Cliburn, says had their family laughing nonstop.
Most of Mayson’s answers were incredibly sweet. He said his favorite thing about his mom was that “she takes care of me,” and when asked what gift he would give her, he apparently imagined a fortune large enough to solve the world’s financial problems.
Then came the question asking what his mom does while he’s at work.

Cliburn, who actually delivers groceries through Walmart Spark, quickly realized her son had completely misunderstood the phrase “Spark orders.”
“I am crying. We have not quit laughing... why would Mayson write that,” she wrote on Facebook alongside photos of the assignment.
Wanting to make sure there was no confusion, she messaged Mayson’s teacher to explain what her son had really meant.
“I just read Mayson’s Mother’s Day thing and I wanted to clarify that I do Walmart orders,” she wrote. “Haha I’m not sure why he wrote that on his paper but we have been laughing non stop.”
The teacher admitted she was equally amused by the misunderstanding.

“I did!” the teacher replied after being asked if she had seen the answer. “I wanted to send it to you, but I wasn’t sure if it would seem inappropriate.”
She also shared the moment she asked Mayson to explain himself.
“I asked him to read it to me and he said, ‘She does orders while I’m at school.’ I thought it was hilarious.”
The innocent mix-up quickly became the kind of Mother’s Day memory no one in the family will ever forget and honestly, this may be the funniest elementary school assignment of the year.
