A Disc Golf Disc With A Heartfelt Message Brings Strangers Together
February 4, 2026
Sometimes, the simplest things can carry the biggest messages.
A group of disc golfers at HieStand Disc Golf Course on the east side of Madison, Wisconsin, recently experienced just that.
On hole 6, they found a white Innova Beast disc sitting on top of the pin. What made it stand out wasn’t its color or design.
It was the message written on the back.
The disc read:
"This disc is in memory of Kyle Smith. Please toss this hole for him. Then leave it at next hole for next player. If found at last hole please take to a different course. RIP Kyle 9/19/84 – 1/25/20."
Though none of the players knew Kyle personally, the message moved them deeply. They each took a turn tossing the disc on the next three holes, honoring Kyle in a small but meaningful way.
One of the players shared the moment online, writing:
"My friends and I were playing a game of disc golf… we all took a turn tossing the disc on the next 3 holes. I hope this disc continues on and maybe more people will post a picture here in the future. RIP Kyle."
The disc is more than just a piece of sports equipment — it’s a traveling tribute, connecting strangers through the memory of someone who clearly left an impact on those who knew him. Players are encouraged to continue moving the disc from hole to hole, and eventually to another course, spreading Kyle’s memory even further.
It’s a beautiful reminder that small gestures can mean so much. A simple disc, a short message, and a group of willing participants created a chain of remembrance, bringing strangers together over respect, compassion, and shared moments.
Sometimes, even a game can become a way to honor a life — and this disc proves it.
