Newborn Calf Barely Survives Freezing Cold, Then Finds Warmth With Kids

January 30, 2026

A Kentucky family opened their home to a newborn calf struggling in single-digit temperatures and the results are heart-melting.

The Sorrell family’s tiny visitor was born outdoors during one of the coldest weekends in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Shivering and covered in ice, she might not have survived without a quick rescue.

Macey Sorrell’s husband, Tanner, went to check on the pregnant mother and found the newborn frozen.

“She was just frozen. Her umbilical cord looked like a popsicle,” Macey recalled.

Having lost a calf to frostbite last winter, the family acted immediately. They cleaned off the ice and afterbirth, warmed her with a blow dryer, and fluffed her up until she was cozy.

Soon, the little calf found a spot on the couch with the Sorrells’ two children.

“They crawled up next to her like it was just the most normal thing,” Macey said.

She shared the adorable photos on social media, and people can’t get enough of the sweet scene.
