Woman Is Late to Her Own Funeral After Hearse Keys Get Locked Inside
October 24, 2025
They say some people will be late to their own funeral — and for one family, that joke became hilariously real.
A woman’s funeral in a small town took an unexpected (and surprisingly funny) turn when the hearse keys were accidentally locked inside the vehicle right at the gravesite.

Her daughter shared the story on social media, posting a photo with the caption:
“The funeral home accidentally locked the keys in the hearse graveside for my mom today.”
Rather than letting the moment ruin the day, she saw the humor in it — and was quick to thank the local police department for coming to the rescue.
“While sitcom worthy, it was only a mild annoyance thanks to local cops,” she noted. “I’m genuinely grateful to the local PD for not having a legitimate emergency and taking the time to jimmy the lock on the hearse. It only took an extra 10 minutes, and waiting on a locksmith could’ve been two hours.”
The daughter said the officers had never encountered a hearse lockout before, but handled it with care — and likely inspired the funeral home to invest in a spare set of keys.
She ended her post with the perfect reflection:
“It’s just a reminder that even during death, life still happens.”
While sitcom-worthy, the brief delay brought a few smiles to an otherwise somber day — a gentle reminder that even in moments of grief, it’s okay to laugh. The daughter said her mom would’ve gotten a real kick out of the situation.
