The zoo announced the birth of a female Asian elephant calf, sharing adorable photos and videos of the little one exploring alongside her mom, Bluebonnet.
"This bundle of joy was born in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 18, to mom, Bluebonnet, the very first elephant calf born in the history of the Zoo back in 1998," the zoo shared on Facebook.

This calf is extra special: she’s Bluebonnet’s third baby, but her very first daughter. And just like her mom, she’ll carry on a Texas tradition when it comes to her name.
“As is tradition at the Fort Worth Zoo, all elephants born here are given a Texas-themed name,” the zoo shared.
Bluebonnet, who made history as the first elephant born at the zoo back in 1998, was named after the state flower of Texas.

Now, the zoo is inviting the community to help choose a floral-inspired name for Bluebonnet’s little girl. The options are:
1. Lady Bird (“Birdie”)
2. Black-eyed Susan (“Susie”)
3. Yellow Rose (“Rosie”)
Fans can cast their votes online, and the winning name will be announced soon.
