Hannah’s journey began with a heartbreaking call from her family, informing her that her mother, who was in the hospital recovering from surgery for pneumonia, had gone into septic shock.

The message was clear: she needed to come “immediately.”

Hannah booked the first available flight out of Dallas, with a connection in Minneapolis to Bismarck Municipal Airport. However, mechanical issues on her first flight delayed takeoff by over an hour, putting her connection in jeopardy.

“I knew if I didn’t make my connecting flight, I wouldn’t see my mom until the following day, and we weren’t sure she’d be alive,” Hannah shared.

Delta Captain Keith Napolitano, who made the critical decision, told CNN, “The stars don’t always align where I have the immediate ability to affect the outcome, but this was one of those cases where I felt it was possible.”
