A husband’s unexpected letter to his wife has gone viral, taking social media on a rollercoaster ride before delivering a twist that no one saw coming.

The wife, who shared the letter on X, admitted she felt a bit “nervous” when she first opened the envelope marked “To My Wife.”

In her post, captioned "Ladies…choose yourself. I woke up to this nonsense after almost 11 years of marriage", she shared three photos: one of the envelope, another capturing her text exchange with her husband, Fred, after reading the letter, and, of course, the letter itself.

The letter starts in a heartfelt way: “Dear wife, Let me start this off by saying I Love You dearly. You mean the world to me. However, I owe it to myself as well as you to be completely honest with you.”

At this point, many viewers were on edge, wondering if the husband was about to confess something dramatic.

But then came the hilarious twist.

"Tonight, October 22 2024 marks opening night for the New York Knicks 24-25 season. I will be watching the game tonight," he wrote.

"This means from 7pm (that's when pregame starts), to whatever time the game ends I will not be a husband or a father. Ya'll are on your own for a couple of hours. No I will not watch shows with you. No I will not get you something sweet. I will not take the dog out. I will not get the kid in bed either. I will sit on my couch, drink in hand and I will watch the game. That's it. This doesn't mean I love you guys any less. It just means tonight is not about ya'll. It's about ruining the Boston Celtics ring ceremony. The rest of the season is negotiable up until the point in time we reach the playoffs. Then I will have to abandon ya'll again temporarily."

At the end of the letter he added, "P.S. the child may stay up past bedtime only if he watches the game with me. If he doesn't want to watch then off to bed with him. Thanks"

Social media users were taken on an emotional rollercoaster by the couple’s playful twist, feeling both amused and relieved.

"You could have given me a million guesses on how that letter would end, and I still wouldn’t have seen this coming," one person commented.

Another wrote, "Not gonna lie I was NOT expecting that, it had me going the first half. Kudos to you both for having a fun marriage and messing with each other."

In an update, she shared a video of her husband and son happily watching the game together.
