Well, folks, we had a good run at the top.

The remarkable creature was observed not once but twice this summer by researchers from the Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute.

"It was the very first time we saw this surprising flipper morphology in 30 years of surveys in the open sea and also in studies while monitoring all the stranded dolphins along the coasts of Greece for 30 years," Alexandros Frantzis, the scientific coordinator and president of the Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute, told Live Science.
Social media is abuzz with speculation and enthusiasm surrounding the dolphin sporting thumbs. Some jest that with dolphins evolving thumbs, the human era is coming to a close, humorously suggesting that these already intelligent creatures might be the next rulers of the planet.
"I, for one, welcome our new dolphin overlords," one commenter wrote.
"Guys, I think it's time we start telling our loved ones goodbye," another joked.
