Most Golden Retrievers only live to be 10 to 12 years old. Some have lived beyond that, even reaching 19 years old.
But no Golden Retriever has been known to reach 20 before August.

Jennifer Hetterscheidt told TODAY that August is still in great health for her age, despite experiencing some early-stage kidney failure that is treated with diet and supplements.
But the kidney problems don't take much toll on August's daily life. She still loves going on walks and playing fetch in the family pool.

The Hetterscheidts own three other goldens that keep August company.
"She's happy doing something, she's happy doing nothing," Jennifer said. "She's showing her age, she's slowing down, but she's got gusto, this old girl."
