Wife-Carrying Competitions Exist And They're Hilarious
September 16, 2019
Wife-carrying is a contest that originated in Finland. Male competitors race while each carrying their wife teammate.
But it's not a simple race -- it's an obstacle course which makes this event very interesting!
The Wife Carrying World Championships have been held annually in Sonkajärvi, Finland, since 1992.
However, the competition has spread to other countries over the years -- including Australia, the United States, India, Germany, and the UK.
The city of Newry, Maine, held the latest edition of the North American Wife Carrying Championship.
Forty four couples competed in the competition. The winner will participate in the world championship in Finland next year and won 11 cases of beer.
In addition to winning the race, the most entertaining couple, the best costume, and the strongest carrier are awarded a special prize.
