Woman Leaves Senior Living Center Every Day To Feed Homeless Cats

October 23, 2018

Every day for the past 10 years, this little old lady has taken time to feed a group of homeless cats in the park near her senior living center in San Jose, California.

Rita Rama, who visits the park every weekend with her family, decided to meet this unsung hero and shared the touching story on Facebook.

This is what Rama wrote:

"Every Saturday our family heads to a park in San Jose.

We always notice an older woman who walks towards the side of the park with her walker with bags and bottles.

She parks her walker in the corner and lays out some paper plates and pours some cat food and water.

While she does this a community of homeless cats come from all corners and begins to eat.

She watches them, pets them, and then goes back home to a senior center next door.

Today, my daughter and I watched quietly from afar. We finally had a chance to meet this kind woman.

Her name is Evan.

She has lived at the senior center for 10 years.

She feeds the community cats every day, rain or shine. These cats have been left behind by her neighbors. She tries to have them neutered and find homes for them.

Evan says: 'I've done this for 10 years. I was raised to follow through with commitments, including those to our pets.'

Currently there are 14 cats under her care and she is worried for them as some are still not fixed and she struggles with finding homes."

Rama asked Evan if she could share this and maybe help her find homes for those 14 cats. After it was posted, a veterinary assitant in San Jose responded to the post and offered to help.

"I live in San Jose and I'm currently working at an animal hospital while going to school for my RVT licensing, if someone can put me in contact with her I know a couple people including myself who would LOVE to help her out!" Anya Micha Escamilla wrote.

Many people from out of state have offered to help cover food and other costs.

"I'd love to donate food to her so she doesn't have to spend her own money. Any idea how I can get it to her?" wrote TLyn Schaf.

"We need to help her fund her small but heartfelt mission!!! I'm willing to donate towards a spay or neuter for one of the 14... How about you?" wrote Marti Tony.

"How do we sponsor to spay or neuter one of these cats? We would like to sponsor asap! I would like to pay the vet or clinic directly," wrote Kathrine Mejia.

Thanks to Evan, Rama, and all these kind souls, it looks like these cats will be in good hands in the near future!
