Grandma Accidentally Takes In An Opossum Thinking It's A Stray Cat

December 8, 2017

A sweet grandmother who often takes in stray cats has mistakenly taken in an opossum — and the marsupial has made itself at home!

She had no idea it wasn't a cat until her grandson Eric stopped by and noticed one of the "cats" looked a bit odd.

"She reassured me it was one of her cats," Eric told The Dodo. "I told her it wasn't what she thought it was."

Eric snapped a photo and posted it on Twitter.

"My grandma has been taking care of a possum these last couple months thinking it was just another cat lmaoo what is u doing grams."

Eric said his grandmom was shocked and had trouble wrapping her head around the fact that she's been caring for an opossum the past few weeks.

"She kinda just sat there," Eric recalled. "Then she got a little closer … and slowly looked up at me with the biggest grin on her face and said, 'Well, he hasn't bothered me yet, so I'm OK with him being here!'"
