June 14, 2017

A guy made a miniature electric fence to stop the slugs/snails from eating his plants -- and it doesn't kill or injure them.

Using galvanized coated garden wire (1.6 mm) and a 9 volt battery, which isn't strong enough to kill them, he successfully keeps the slimy leaf-munchers from entering his garden beds.

Here's how he did it:

Run the wire around the bed, using staples to keep the it in place.

Make a loop on one end to connect the wire.

Then run a second wire around the garden bed, making sure the two wires DO NOT TOUCH.

He drilled two small holes into a watertight container.

You can just tape the ends of the wire to a 9-volt battery.

If you want to get fancy you can solder a 9-volt connector to the ends.

Put the battery in the container and connect the wires.

He also taped the battery to the lid, just in case water did get in the box, the battery will not sit in any rain water.

All done!

He even recorded a short video of a snail attempting to get in.
