Not many people are aware of this, but there's an FTC .gov website where you can OPT-OUT of nearly all unsolicited junk-mail (preapproved credit cards, insurance, etc.) in less than one minute.

The form asks for your SSN but it is NOT required.

"Your Social Security Number is not required to process an Opt-Out request through," the FAQ explains. "However, we strongly urge you to provide this information because it helps to ensure that we can successfully process your request."
