Linus Drops His Blanket - The Moment You Never Noticed In A Charlie Brown Christmas

December 17, 2015

This year marks the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas - the longest-running cartoon special in history. But for the first time, I learned something I never noticed before: Linus drops his blanket.

Linus drops blanket fear not

Linus NEVER drops his blanket. This one time in the history of Peanuts, Linus drops his security blanket - and it was intentional.

While giving his speech on "what Christmas is all about," Linus drops his blanket at the exact moment he says the words, "fear not!"

Watch the scene below:

Blogger Jason Soroski believes Charles Schultz did this intentionally.

"The birth of Jesus allows us to simply drop the false security we have been grasping so tightly, and learn to trust and cling to Him instead," he wrote on his blog.

"This simple cartoon image from 1965 continues to live on as an inspiration for us to seek true peace and true security in the one place it has always been and can always still be found."

Others have shared similar opinions. KidzMatter Magazine editor and blogger Tina Houser wrote:

"When it got right down to what Christmas is all about, we put Jesus in the spotlight of center stage. We dropped our guard. We set aside our greed and reached out to someone in need. We looked beyond the 'unique' relatives and enjoyed just being together. The worries that were normally an overwhelming presence in daily life somehow disappeared. The things that we cling to for security and the burdens that we choose to carry with us 51 weeks out of the year got the week off. Just like Linus, we let our blankets slip from our fingers and drop onto the floor."

Happy coincidence or intentional message? We'll let you decide.

Merry Christmas everyone.
