Highwoman's Powerful Lyrics Will Move You In This Live Performance By 'The Highwomen'
September 16, 2019
The HighWomen (Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby) perform "Highwoman" with Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, and Yola at the Newport Folk Festival.
"Highwoman" is a 2019 version of the song "Highwayman", which was a huge hit in 1985 for The Highwaymen, a sueprgroup consiting of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson.
For the new version, The Highwomen sing from multiple perspectives. Their characters, however, are all brave and strong women, including a Honduran refugee, a Freedom Rider, a preacher, and a casualty of the Salem Witch Trials.
