Stranded Mom Faces A Terrifying Breakdown, Then A Father-Son Duo Steps In To Save The Day

December 3, 2025

East Idaho News (EIN) is back with another heartwarming holiday surprise, this time featuring a father and son who went above and beyond for a stranded mother. The woman had been hauling a 1,000-gallon sealcoat tank back from Salt Lake City with her three young daughters when disaster struck on Malad Pass. A loud boom, black exhaust, and a popped hood left her shaken, frustrated, and with no real help from roadside assistance, who could only tow either the truck or the trailer — not both.

Just when things seemed hopeless, a kind stranger named Casey and his son Roper pulled over to check on them. In a perfectly timed twist, Casey had literally just fixed the exact same problem — a blown turbo boot — earlier that day. With nothing but duct tape, a 12mm socket, and pure MacGyver energy, he patched the truck well enough to get her moving again. Then the duo followed her to Downey for safety, tracked down parts from multiple shops, gave her their number, and continued offering help until she made it to Blackfoot, where her husband met her with the needed repairs.

The woman later wrote to EIN calling them “father and son heroes,” deeply grateful for the kindness they showed her and her daughters during one of the scariest moments of her life. Casey and Roper refused payment, insisting they were just happy to help. EIN surprised them with a special holiday gift — a fitting thank-you for two everyday Good Samaritans who turned a frightening night into a story of compassion and community.
