Trail Cam Captures Two Unlikely Friends Out For A Late Night Walk
April 11, 2025
A trail camera in Queensland, Australia, has captured a rare moment: a red fox and a red deer casually strolling side by side under the moonlight.
The video, posted by a wildlife enthusiast who has been monitoring the area for two years, shows the two animals moving together as if they’ve been friends forever.
“I captured two friends out for a walk together—Red Fox and Red Deer,” the uploader shared. “I’ve had many trail cameras in this area, and I’ve captured hundreds of fox interactions with other foxes and animals, but I’ve never seen two different species just walking together like this. The deer and fox seem to be very accepting of each other and the companionship.”
While it’s unusual to see such different animals traveling side by side, there may be a practical reason for their unexpected friendship. Deer are often calm and alert, while foxes are clever and quick to react. Together, they may benefit from each other’s strengths—extra sets of eyes and ears to stay safe from predators.
Or maybe, just maybe, they simply enjoy each other’s company.
