March 10, 2025
Candy, an 11-year-old German shepherd, walked through the halls of the Virginia Beach Correctional Center one last time—her favorite tennis ball in tow—as deputies lined up to salute her years of dedication.
Due to a terminal cancer diagnosis, Candy retired from active duty. The heartfelt walkout was a tribute to her unwavering service. She was escorted by her handler, Master Deputy II Anthony Natalzia, his wife, and their three children.
