During a nighttime fishing excursion on an Australian beach, a couple of fishing enthusiasts nearly stepped on what viewers are calling a "demon", describing it as "terrifying".
The frightening encounter was quickly revealed to be a jawfish, a fascinating yet eerie-looking marine creature.
Jawfishes typically reside in burrows they construct in sandy substrates. These industrious fish scoop up mouthfuls of sand and spit it out elsewhere, slowly creating intricate tunnels for themselves. However, spotting one on the beach at night can be quite a shock, as their appearance can be rather unsettling in the dark.
Unlike typical underwater sightings, this beachside encounter gave the jawfish an even more otherworldly appearance.
Viewers were quick to comment on the video, highlighting its terrifying nature.
"I thought the video was from under water at first," one commenter wrote.
"Wait that's not underwater? Scary as sheeat," another wrote.

"Why is this monstrosity not on the bottom of the ocean with the rest of God's practice fish," another viewer commented.
"Australia has potholes with demons in them. Unsurprisingly," another wrote.
