Bride Dances With Paralyzed Father Who Stands For First Time In 21 Years
July 3, 2022
Former IndyCar driver, Sam Schmidt was paralyzed from the neck down after an accident in 2000. Schmidt was driving his Treadway Racing G Force-Aurora at Walt Disney World Speedway when he spun and hit the retaining wall.
His daughter, Savannah, was only 2 years old when it happened and has never known a time when her father could stand.
On her wedding day, they shared an extremely special dance together.
"I always dreamed this day would come," Savannah said. "So, for this one dance, it was incredible just to be his daughter, and for him just to be my dad. For us to get to have the daddy-daughter dance that every little girl dreams of. For me to actually look up at him, to hold his hands and just dance."
