The 'Godmother Of Drumming' Shows Off Her Doubles Skills

April 28, 2021

Dorothea Taylor, 57, started playing drums at 13 years old when she joined a drum and bugle corps in her hometown in Michigan. She got her first set of drums in as a junior high and joined a band after she graduated, playing five nights a week.

Taylor has been in polka bands, rock bands, theater groups, church cantatas, symphony orchestras, jazz trios, and accompanies school concerts when an experienced drummer is needed.

But it wasn't until last year when Drumeo released a video of her covering "Down With the Sickness" that the world was introduced to Taylor, also known as the "Godmother of Drumming".

In a new TikTok video, Taylor demonstrated her skills while teaching aspiring drummers how to play doubles.

The clip has garnered over 7 million views.
