Thomas Paterson, 22, was travelling down stream on his board in Ottawa, Canada, when he spotted a squirrel stranded on a rock.
He swam up to the rock hoping the squirrel would hop on his board, but it ended up trying to cross the river on its own. The rapids were too strong and the critter quickly became submerged under the fast flowing water.
