Two 20 Year-Old Guys Gutted Their Van And Built A Free, Mobile Laundry Service For The Homeless
October 26, 2014
Every night in Brisbane, Australia, around 300 homeless people find a place to sleep in a park, under a bridge, in a parking lot or abandoned building.
Two 20 year-old guys have taken it upon themselves to create a charity, Orange Sky Laundry, and build a van that offers a free, mobile laundry service to Brisbane's homeless.
Here's how they did it:
First they removed the wall lining of the van to make more room.
They installed new wall lining for the electrical outlets.
The van needed a nice orange paint job.
With the platform built, now it's time to buy and install the washers and dryers.
First washer goes in.
Installation inside the van, Chemical pumps supplied by Symbio, 25m retractable hose and ducting for dryers.
Second washer is in, a perfect fit.
Meet David. A proud board member, and volunteer coordinator.
The first person to use the van. It's officially in operation.
Orange Sky Laundry is Australia's first mobile laundry service providing homeless people with access to free washing/drying facilities, and it's run by unpaid volunteers. If you want to help their cause, you can make a donation here. Learn more at OrangeSkyLaundry.com.
